Murder on the dance floor

My thanks to Huw for this link to Yemii Pics - a site dedicated to photos of Swedish Dance Bands from the 1970s. Websites rarely come more specific than that. Who wouldn't want to dance the night away to the sounds of the Schytts or the Gert Jonnys?

Incidentally I think the chap on the right of the Hick's photo may be Postman Pat. Just imagine him in a blue postman's uniform. Go on. See what I mean?

Now who wouldn't want to dance the night away, etc. etc. I don't believe that I've ever been asked that question. After long and careful thought, a full nanosecond or so, I think the answer is 'ME! ME! ME!'

Sorry for the strong emotion. I once gave myself serious tendon injury disco dancing in earth shoes. A bit of post traumatic stress, I guess.

Debby - Earth shoes? What in the name of the wee man are earth shoes?

Ousizch - This may be spam but I allowed it anyway. If for no other reason than your blog which is a spanking read.

Oh, get off, Stevyn. You are not too young to remember earth shoes. The heels were lower than the toes. It was supposed to equate to the healthful 'walking in sand at the beach feeling'. Yeah. Not all that healthy, actually. Uncomfortable when worn for long periods of time.

Debby - Nope. Sorry. Never heard of such a thing despite my advanced years. Nor has Dawn. Perhaps it was an American thing. They sound bizarre enough!

HEY! I resemble THAT remark, sir!

Amazingly enough, some of these bands are still going strong, such as Thorleifs...

The fact that this post is changing every time that I look at it is making me nervous. It's as if the thing has a life of its own.

What the......?
How did all these groups come to be, a Government decree or a National dare?

"We will win Eurovision at any cost!"

Debby, Katie, Rob - I have just one comment to make ... Who in Hell designed and manufactured those bloody costumes? Is there, perchance, some odd little costumier hidden away somewhere in the back streets of Malmö who is mad, blind but otherwise gifted with a needle and bodkin? I imagine him to look rather like the excellently named Auguste Balls from the 'Pink Panther' films.

Like the album covers. I can just imagine the introduction for band no.1 - "Ladies and gentlemen, I give you...The Schytts!" And the Hick front and centre looks suspiciously like Bruno Brookes.

Stevyn Colgan said...

Bruno Brookes, eh? Whatever happened to him? I always remember him as soft and inoffensive like he was made of wool. Perhaps a kitten destroyed him?

Here's an ad for Thorleif's new album. Look if you dare!

Punky - Now that really is scary. How old are they all? And what's with all the leaf throwing? Still, at least the clothes have got better. And the teeth. Dentures I presume.

You can check out their website if you're brave enough. http://www.thorleifs.se/

But the Kings of Swedish Dance Bands are Vikingarna (The Vikings) with singer Christer Sjögren. Now there's a man who doesn't need a wacky suit to scare small children.
Here's a medley of their greatest hits.
