My first review (that I know of)

The Bookbag has run a review of Joined-Up Thinking. You can read it here.

I'm still not sure if they like it or not ... but it is an entertaining write up and they did give me four stars out of five.

So, we're off to a decent start.

Have read his review. I wish he had written it in plain English as perhaps then I would have understood it. As it stands - I don't. Why moan so much and then say buy it and give 4 stars....I am clearly not the brightest bulb in the lantern.....

I feel like reviewing his review, as it seems muddled and contradictory. But 4 stars don't lie, well done. But before you realised it was positive, did you read it through the gaps in your fingers ?

It seemed to me that he did like it and thought it'd sell well and be enjoyed, but I get the feeling he didn't enjoy it as much as he enjoyed waffling about it.

This I guess is the hard part of the process, when after so long in the making the fruits of your labour venture out into the world....well as you said, it's a good start.

Yes I agree with the above. He likes it/he doesn't!! Which is it I ask you?

Whatever Stevyn - the most important sentence in this review is the one where he says he thinks it'll be one of the seasons big hits! Way to go you I say :-)

I agree with me---eerk.
The review is confusing, almost pangs of jealousy or wannabe editorial frustrationism.. a begrudging 4 stars.. what a frustrated fucker!
I still think it is fab my man!!

I agree with Me. That's hardly unequivocable.

But I also disagree with Me. I'd say he is not the brghtest bulb in the lantern.

Well, Me, we'll have to burn dimly together as I didn't understand chunks of it either. However, everyone is entitled to an opinion and I'm hanging my hopes on the star rating! x

Thanks for your comments everyone. I guess this is the part that everyone cringes about - the reviews. But if you stick your head above the parapet you have to expect to get shot at. There are going to be whole rafts of people out there who either don't like the book or the way I write. Let's face it, it's not great literature I'm peddling here. But, equally, there will be people who do. This first review may have been confusing but at least the guy is being honest about how he feels and I'm big enough and ugly enough to take criticism and even a little vitriol. You don't wear a police uniform for 30 years without hearing a few choice words aimed in your direction!

Stevyn, I think this is typical. Reviews are, generally speaking, more a platform for the reviewer's rhetoric than they are about the product being reviewed.

Those who can, do.

Those who can't, write reviews.

Pip pip!

Spud is back here - yay! Now just get Murphy back and all will be well.

Well said Spud - that reviewer is a frustrated fucker! Ooo - I rarely swear but it feels so blooming cathartic I don't care!

Aha! The mysterious Anonymous returns and it's someone who doesn't know that Spud and Murphy are the same ginger fellow.

Just who is my Anonymous Nemesis?

Try saying that after a few ciders.

Spud-u-like! Ah yes, my Mysterious Anonymous Nemesis! I think I've invented a new tongue-twister.
