Joke of the Week

Another from my 'I want to be Gary Larson' period circa 1990.

Note the clever way that I completely ignored the rules of perspective.

Heehee...yes, I thought I detected a bit of Far Side-ishness. ;^)

Willow ... yeah, I did go through a phase like boys do ...

Not just boys. If I could draw, I would have had a Far Side stage. My all-time favorite: The real reason that dinosaurs became extinct. (Or something close to that.)

Janet - Love that cartoon! That's the one where all the dinosaurs were smoking, right? I did draw a dinosaur extinction cartoon myself. I may just post it later when I'm near my computer (I'm out and about on a handheld doohickey at the moment). x

Stevyn, yes - that's the one! I'd love to see yours as well.

BTW, I just saw your "Diary" notes on the other side of the page. Although I love 6 Music, I must admit that I'm not a fan of George Lamb's programme. I'll make an exception on the 7th of October, though!

Stevyn, one more comment and then I'll be quiet!

I almost forgot to ask if you're aware of the new BBC 4 quiz show called "Only Connect"? We watched the second episode last night. It's billed as "Quiz show in which connections need to be made between apparently unconnected things."

So first HMV - NOW the Beeb. You've obviously started something!

PS I found "Only Connect" a bit TOO cerebral myself and may or may not watch again.

Janet - I'll admit that I'm not really familiar with George - I'm more of a Radio 4 man myself - and, as I don't watch Big Brother (pause to spit), I don't know his TV work either. So I'll just take things as I find them.

Now as for 'Only connect' ... by coincidence I discovered it last night and saw the second episode. It didn't float my boat, sadly. It all seemed a little too pretentious (Greek alphabet topic selections?) and although I like Victoria Coren a lot, she seemed oddly patronising on this show. And the lack of a studio audience left the whole thing feeling deader than Steller's Sea Cow.

It is curious that al of these 'connections' type things all seem to be coming out of the woodwork now as my book launch looms. I signed the contract for this well over a year ago. An extra layer of spookiness was added by my mate Murphy who pointed out that is a counseling and therapy site run by a guy called Stevyn Hepner that uses the strap-line of 'Connecting Solutions'.

Morphic resonance? Was Rupert Sheldrake right all along? Or is it the so-called 'Red Mini effect' in that I'm only seeing these things because I'm unusually sensitive to their appearances?
