Death by Dumbo (Squeamish people look away now)

I came across this extraordinary print while researching today. Apparently, execution by elephant was pretty commonplace across Asia once upon a time.

Ouch. That's gotta hurt.

Odd. Very odd. At least you didn't have to feed and house a guillotine.

True. And the executioner worked for peanuts.

I had NEVER heard of this, either.

So, when the condemned is asked to choose his method of death, the choices could be...

Hanging
The guillotine
Lethal injection
Electrocution
Getting stomped by a pachyderm

Well, it's always nice to have a choice. On a different tack, I recently read that 'pachyderm' - a word I've used countless times is now obsolete! Shock! Horror! Apparently, because it covers more than one species (having been coined way back in the early 19th century by Cuvier who thought pigs and elephants and hippos were related), it no longer has any currency in science and has been disused. Noooo! Sob!

It's 'Brontosaurus' all over again ...

Stevyn,

I'm saddened by what you say about "pachyderm". It has always been a favorite word of mine.

Yes, damn and blast the word fascists. As I understand it, 'adrenalin' is also no longer proper either. Whoever heard of an'epinephrine rush'?!

...or even worse, maybe - an "epi rush".
