And London held its breath for 10 minutes ...

I doubt if it will make the international (or even national) news but we had a bit of a scare in London today. This morning, a scarily large plume of smoke appeared over Stratford in East London ... steadily growing larger and larger. It was obvious fairly immediately that this was some kind of major incident ... and for those of us who live and work in London the prospect of a new terrorist attack seemed suddenly very real. People stopped work to stare out of the windows at the huge cloud of filthy smoke hanging ominously over the city. I was working in Earls Court and just happened to be in one of London's tallest buildings so I zipped up to the 30th floor and got these shots.

It turned out to be a warehouse fire on the edge of the Olympics village site. Good news - the warehouse was scheduled for demolition anyway. London breathed a sigh of relief ...

Yes the pics do look a bit 911, Sky news would have been able to fill 3 hours of "breaking news" with those.
